Newbie wants to get feet wet with 3D Printing. Is this used purchase a good deal?
I've been fascinated with 3D printing for awhile and finally want to jump into it.
Looking to purchase a "starter" setup that is easy to use and will get me ready for a possible bigger/better printer down the road.
I found this setup at a local yard sale and am going tomorrow to have the owner show me it working.
It's a 3D systems Sense Scanner and 3D systems Cube 3D 2nd Gen printer with several cartridges and all accessories. For $500.
If everything is in working order, does this sound like a decent deal??
Thanks.

yep definitely a good deal.
Also check on youtube for ways to hack the cartrdiges and use normal priced filament with the machine.
No idea about the scanner - but you can't buy a 3d scanner for less than $600 at the moment. Let alone with a printer thrown in.

Actually just picked them up yesterday for $400 so I'm pretty stoked.
Printed out my first item last night (the "rook" chess piece) and it came out pretty good.

Yes, wow. If both of those are in full working order you may have officially won at garage sales.
I'll second the advice to look for a way to unlock the printer to use third party filaments, though. 3DS filaments are nothing special for the price they charge, and getting away from them as fast as possible is a good move for the wallet. (same can be said for any proprietary locked cartridge filaments, really)

If anyone is looking for a 3D systems Cubex Duo, I also found someone (out of my state so too far for me to go) with two of those units for $1500.
That's $1500 for both units.
Again, I was considering them but he's like three states away from me.
Do bed magnets deteriorate.
