OBJ files? 3d Art and Animation?

I been thinking a bit. Are the OBJ files I see mentioned for 3D printing basically the same as the OBJ files used for 3d art and animation programs like Daz3d, Poser, Carara, etc.... ?
Heck I got a ton of that stuff I bought years ago when using those programs allot.
    Really cool stuff!
Nothing installed right now though, but I got GIGs of OBJ's I've bought!

    Animals, vehicles, props, people, etc...

OBJ files seem to be universal. I can even take a Poser .PP2 file and rename the extension to OBJ and open with my Pepakura Designer software.

    - They are the same, but some work and scaling is needed for them to print. Sometimes animation models aren't completely 'water-tight'
