Pelvis Resection Takes Place Without Problem Thanks to 3D Printing
After a year of experiencing pain in his left hip, 65-year-old patient Mr. "Smith" underwent surgery to remove a pelvic tumor. The medical team in Hong Kong worked closely with implant engineers in Leuven, Belgium to create both a model for the surgeons to utilize as practice and to create the implant that would restore motion and weight bearing capacity to the damaged hip. As a result, Mr. Smith was able to undergo an implant surgery and return to walking without a brace within 8 weeks. Nearly a year later, the implant is functioning and the patient reports no pain and the ability to move without assistance.
