I also found that the small male plug connector on the USB cable could be pushed to far into the socket of the controller board and there was no contact between the cable and board. The plug seemed to be loose in the socket. So I inserted the plug until a good connection was made and put a mark on the plug to show the limit of insert. Then I wrapped some good ol' painters tape around the socket, leaving the tip exposed. Now I just push the plug in until it reaches the edge of the tape and I have a good connection.

Funny, I guess it depends on how wide of a roll of tape you need to use...ba dum dum...

Kidding aside, I'll keep an eye out for that. I plug and unplug that USB cord into board ALOT. I wondered about the longevity of it. I might get an extension and plug and unplug the extension so the board stops taking the abuse.

I did print a full print tonight without a halt, so, that fixed it for me.

I don't have a USB port on the front face of my computer. Mine's around the back, If the port was in front, I'd run the cable from there, tie wrap the small plug to the controller board somehow and when I wanted to disconnect, I'd remove the big flat connector from the front.

It is a shame that one can't 'power off' the board with disconnecting it. An inline switch would be nice and make things tidy.

As for the width of the tape - I only needed microfibre. Boom Boom rim shot.

I've considered a USB hub with switches but I can only find one with multiple ports (4 or 7). It seems like a waste. I guess I should get over that and just get the 4-port one and solve my problem.

I have a single port one, but that's used for the stick that I transfer my gcode files from my office computer to the printer computer since they are in different locations and the office computer is 64 bit but the printer computer is 32 so they won't talk to each other. That's my IT Expert Son's reply. I really should splash out and get a hub.
