Filament removal after printing

Do i need to remove the filament (ABS) completely from the heater block and extruder head after each print or is it OK to leave it in place until next time. I'm a bit concerned that i may do some damage to the drive rollers if I pull the filament out after every print as it does need a bit of a tug to get it out

Unload it, don't just pull it out.

As far as I know it should be OK leaving it in but I take it out of mine because if I don't it breaks next time I use the printer, I wish I knew why that happens.

You "should" be going into your utilities and unloading / loading filament every time you change filament.

That being said, if you're using the same filament for the next print, leave it alone until next time. I've got nearly 1K hrs on my main FF printer and it hasn't caused any trouble yet.

Agree with that!
On day 2 of owning a Flashforge, and that is the first thing I found to correct the issue - as I was changing filaments a lot trying them out.

Hmmm I have just been releasing the tensioner by hand, and yanking the filament out while its hot.
Seems to work decent, What do you mean load before unloading?
5 seconds sounds like alot of filament.
