Besides the hacks that are out there are they any alternatives to cube cartridges?

None that we are aware of?

We sell these printers in Russia and has long been know how to circumvent the protection to use any cartridges. All this is done with the help of the program KISSlicer

Purely physical solution. NO messing with electronics or potentially buggering up your warranty.

No doubt a firmware update will be released in the future to prevent the printer printing with an empty cartridge. There's an easy solution to that - don't update the firmware :-)
