I contacted flashforge support directly (they are extremely quick to reply and are very helpful) and it looked like my build plate was actually bad too. I just received a new built plate and circuit board from them.

Well, it's a bright sunny day, with birds chirping etc.

Went to MicroCenter; they can't repair the printer, so it's a warranty replacement.
They don't have the PowerSpec 3D X in stock, so it's a warranty credit refund.
They have the 'Pro' version in stock. The PowerSpec absolutely is a FlashForge printer re-badge, the Pro is a FlashForge Creator X Pro.
The clearance price on the Pro is US$200 LESS than the credit on the 3D X!

So, I have a new printer, I bought the 2-year full replacement plan, and still have $100 in store credit to use for ... who knows what? That's for next week. (I'm thinking raspberry pi camera to use with one of my pi's running octoprint )

All in all, if I had to have printer problems, I couldn't ask for a better resolution.

Kudos to MicroCenter for honoring their warrany obligations, as well.

    Cheers,

    John
