    3D4C Full Color 3D Printer

There seems to be quite a high demand for an FDM-based 3D printer which can mix several filaments in order to print in multiple colors. A man named Felix Chan from London may have just come up with such a machine. He has just launched his 3D4C full color 3D printer on Kickstarter. It can mix 4 different colored filaments to create all sorts of colors during a print. The printer will cost approximately $1445 for the earliest backer. More detail on this printer can be found here: http://3dprint.com/12058/3d4c-color-3d-printer/

Here are the basic specs for the 3D4C:
    • Build Envelope: 250 x 250x 180mm
    • Layer Resolution: 100-500 microns
    • Nozzle Diameter: 0.4mm or 0.8mm
    • Filament Type/Size: PLA or ABS (1.75mm)

DAMN! someone beat me to it!!! FML

I have been trying it with 2 colours trying to feed them in at the same time using like light blue and purple, red/yellow etc

The hard part is regulating the mix so the mixed colour stays true.

I.e I mix red and yellow to make orange, but too much of one or the other changes the tone, so yeah I guess just getting the feeders synchronised would be the main challenge. Ah well, I still can try! that's the great thing... if you build something and it doesn't work, you redesign it and print it out again for round 2!

A different company (Builder) beat you AND 3D4C http://3dprinter4u.com/color-mixing-2

The thing is, i'm not that impressed. With the many SLS patents expired it's only a matter of time before SLS takes over FDM (including full color printing).

sls just has way too much post processing and mess to replace fdm asa home system. At the moment.

As far as full colour goes there's a couple of bods who have come up with a much better way than mixed filament.
It's a bolt on kit that colours a transparent/natural filament as it goes into the printer.
