Lost in the SW maze (Cura, Slic3r, Pronterface, MatterControl etc.

I am trying to figure out a combination of printer control software and slicer that is up-to-date with current features.
I think something like Pronterface and Cura might be a good combination or Pronterface and prusaslicer but don't know how to integrate the two of them.

I have used MatterControl 1.7 for years with the MatterSlicer but it no longer has updated features. They have a newer version (2.x) but somehow they messed up the interface and it is hugely awkward.

So far, I like the human interface on Pronterface and I read good things about cura and prusaslicer.

Are either of those a good match?
If so, how to integrate the them?

Alternatives???
