Talk about futuristic..... Researchers at at MIT are working on creating 3D printed robots which self assemble. The robots will be printed as flat pieces, and when placed in the oven self assemble. They have been making significant progress on this research, led by Daniela Rus. her and her teams use a PVC sheet which is sandwiched between two sheets of aluminum coated polyester, which has slits in it. By placing the slits in certain areas, the researchers are able to predefine where the 2nd material will fold, creating 3D objects once heated.
