    Does Gearify work for making 3D printable gears?

    Yesteday, my friend showed me this interesting piece of software called gearify (http://www.gearifysoftware.com/). It creates all kinds of cool gears, in just about any shape imaginable. Does anyone know if these gears are exported to the correct file formats that can be used for 3D printing? For example, can I create some gears and then either print them out on my 3d printer or send them to shapeways?

    The website says;
    • Ability to design gear shapes using a variety of options including DXF, CSV, Images, Mathematical expressions, and Free Draw!
    • Save and export to DXF/CSV
    Can you convert DXF or CSV to become 3d printable?

    If they are the only outputs, then you would export the DXF profile of your gear and then import the file into another CAD program (most free ones will be capable.)

    In here you will want to, turn the gear profile into a surface and extrude it up to the desired height.

    Finally save it as an STL file which is the native format for preparing 3D printing files before slicing.

    Should only add 20 seconds per gear once you know what you're doing.
