Desktop 3D printing is seeing increasing professional applications, as Portugal-based Volkswagen Autoeuropa has turned to Ultimaker 3D printers for the creation of manufacturing aids and customized tools used on the automotive assembly line. The company validated the technology in 2014 and now operates seven Ultimaker machines -- which had a 100% return on investment (ROI) within two months, as both costs and time of creation for new tools were cut by more than 90%.
