Momentum Technologies Licenses ORNL's 3D Printed Magnets
In late 2016, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee released a study on how 3D printed permanent magnets can outperform those created by traditional methods, while at the same time conserving rare materials. The technique that the team worked out is able 3D print magnets, using the neodymium magnets in recycled hard disk drives, that possess better microstructural, mechanical, and magnetic properties than those conventionally manufactured...and other companies are starting to take notice. This week, ORNL announced that Momentum Technologies, which was established in Dallas, Texas last year and specializes in e-waste, rare earth elements, recycling, and urban mining, has non-exclusively licensed its 3D printed magnet technology.
