Ear, nose and throat problems such as deviated septum or occluded sinus passage can cause serious problems for those suffering from them, but only a small percentage of those people choose to have surgery to fix those issues. Why? According to a group of researchers at the University of Notre Dame and Allied Physicians, a large part of that has to do with a lack of understanding of diagnoses and treatment plans. In a recently released paper entitled "Patient Education for Endoscopic Sinus Surgery: Preliminary Experience Using 3-D Printed Clinical Imaging Data," the researchers argue that use of 3D printed models can improve patient understanding, and thus improve compliance rate with treatment for sinus conditions.
