When a call was issued for student researchers to propose experiments that required performance in micro-gravity environments, there was no shortage of respondents to the Canadian Reduced Gravity Experiment Design Challenge. Of that initial applicant pool, four finalists have been selected and two of those finalists' experiments touch on 3D printing. The importance of this technology in the exploration of space was quickly recognized and efforts to continue to improve its application in space exploration has clearly hit a chord among student researchers. The students will have the opportunity to board a Falcon 20 aircraft and conduct their experiments while the plane executes parabolic maneuvers allowing them to mimic the conditions of space travel.
