Quite impressed with the SeeMeCNC Orion Delta 3D Printer (photo)

Before attending the Inside 3D Printing Conference, I had heard about and seen photos of the SeeMeCNC Orion Delta 3D printer. However, after seeing the printer in action, I have come away even more impressed. As many of you know the printer does not operate the same as other 3D printers. Most printers an extruder that will run on X,Y,Z axes, in the same typical way. However, the Orion Delta is a bit different. It has 3 vertical bars which have 3 robotic arms attached. They more in unison to print in the correct areas. The build sizes of these printers are huge relative to the smaller size of the printers. Here are a few photos that we took this week at the conference.

Awesome to hear! I'm very excited for the build actually... I was dead set on getting a pre-built machine at first, but the more I thought about, the more I realized that half the fun will be the "project" aspect. The SeeMeCNC guys have a good reputation in the community it seems. Everywhere I'd asked (and I asked QUITE a bit! ) they seemed to be very highly recommended, even among their competition.

I was able to speak with the founder at the conference on Thursday. I asked him why we don't see more 3d printers using this non-axis technology since it is all open source. He stated that no one wants to figure out how to get it right like we have.

Thought that was interesting.
