A team of cybersecurity and materials engineers at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering have some very interesting news for everyone involved in 3D printing. While some may have already worried about this to some extent, the research team points out that security will need to improve in terms of 3D printing technology as malicious hackers could ‘break in’ at the time you are involved in printing orientation or insertion of fine defects. While the integrity of the 3D model may not break down immediately, a minute defect could cause it to disintegrate upon cumulative time in light, temperature, and humidity.
