Researchers from Penn State University have developed a 3D printing process that has made it possible to rapidly prototype and test polymer membranes that are patterned for improved performance. By 3D printing patterns onto 2D ion exchange membranes, the researchers have created unique hydrodynamic properties that have proven to enhance ion transport and mitigate fouling.
