Additive Orthopaedics Gains FDA Clearance for 3D Printed Implant
Early-stage startup Additive Orthopaedics is dedicated to the development of 3D printed orthopedic devices specifically for the extremities, and their first product, a digital fusion implant, has just been given 510(k) clearance from the FDA. Digital fusion, which is sometimes required in toe surgery, occasionally requires a pin or implant to stabilize the bone while it heals. Additive Orthopaedics' titanium device leverages one of the biggest benefits of 3D printing - the ability to customize and create patient-specific devices for better fit and therefore more effective healing.
