Pinshape has been saved, thanks to an acquisition by Formlabs, just announced this morning. No financial figures or complex details have been released, but it is clear that the Vancouver-based 3D model marketplace will now be owned by Formlabs but operate as a standalone business from within. Information so far indicates that both parties are quite thrilled with the deal. Formlabs will be able to continue to expand their 3D printing ecosystem even further with a marketplace such as Pinshape on board—and Pinshape will not be closing their doors as previously expected. This is a new avenue for Formlabs and is a big save for the Pinshape community, currently populated by nearly 100,000 quite active members, and a list of top designers currently enjoying sharing and selling their wares on the popular site.
