While technology and space travel have always gone hand in hand, the technology of 3D printing is giving us a real boost in allowing for self-sustainability away from Earth. Today, a new 3D printer travels from Made in Space to the ISS, aboard the Cygnus spacecraft, launching from Florida’s famous Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 11:05 pm EST. With the availability of this new 3D printer, astronauts will be able to 3D printer a wider expanse of items, and with several new materials as well. 3D printing is becoming a larger conversation in terms of space as we are making 3D printers like Archinaut, which can print large-scale structures in orbit, perhaps eventually leading to colonization on the Moon or even Mars.
