Researchers at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center have announced that they have successfully transplanted living, functional human tissue into mice and rats. The ear, bone and muscle structures were printed using Wake Forest's Integrated Tissue and Organ Printing System (ITOP) and successfully formed networks of blood vessels; the researchers are confident that the technology, after further development, could be used to print customized human organs for transplant in the future.
