A group of students from the Delft University of Technology, with help from MX3D, have designed and printed the world's first metal bicycle to be produced using a 3D printing/welding combination. The technology, known as Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing, is a specialty of MX3D, who developed a unique method of printing using multiple robot arms as 3D printers. Upon completion, the bike was taken for a test ride around Delft, and, despite its delicate appearance, proved to be as strong and functional as a traditional metal bicycle.
