The Possible Benefits of 3D Printing Custom Pills
A group of medical researchers from Wake Forest University presented a paper to American Heart Association Scientific Sessions (AHASS) outlining a method of 3D printing custom medications in pill form that they developed. The researchers created a custom 3D printed pill process, including a computer algorithm, 3D printing software and dosage-adjustment. Once the individual patient's’ medical information has been input into the algorithm, the software will calculate personalized doses and then generate the data required to 3D print custom pills. The pills that were successfully tested and 3D printed ranged in dosage from 124 mg to 373 mg and showed a very high rate of reproducibility. Would like to know more about this. What printer are you testing with and how to keep out cross-contaimination of medicines? Has there been any thoughts to maybe allowing testing in a foreign country?
