Since 1988, Hong Kong's Police Briefing Support Unit has been creating scale models to help investigate crimes and explain them to judges and juries. Their models provided assistance in a number of high profile incidents involving multiple deaths. Now, the unit is adding two 3D printers to their ranks with the hopes that the machines' abilities to quickly and accurately reproduce objects will aid them in creating the models more quickly. They don't see these machines as replacement for the human touch, but rather as tools that can help create models that will even more substantially bring to life the scenes where a crime has taken place to help bring justice to its victims.
