    Why dont you see more leadscrews for axis control?

    Just as title says.

    You would probably be able to get away with much finer control over your axes due to the reduction capability of the leadscrew.

    Is backlash a problem?

    Why timing belts other then cost? Leadscrews are pretty cheap too...

    Please explain.

    Your printer would be much slower with lead screws than with a belt. And your steppers would be working overtime.

    I beg to differ, leadscrew are god damn expansive.....

    Unless you mean regular screw, but when you refer to leadscrew, I am thinking of ACME screw and stud. And backlash still exist with leadscrew, you got to buy their complete overprice anti backlash nuts....

    Your Z axis is probably mounted on a leadscrew and the X & Y on belts.

    Fun but stupid experiment : try to see the max speed you can move on each axis.

    Other than that, yes, cost.

    Lead screws are much more expensive. Once you start replacing the standard components of most home builds and kits with production grade components the cost soar. The advantage is precision that leadscrews can afford. Here is a nice video of a Prusa i3 with leadscrews for its x & Y axis.
