Any filament that looks like metal and what is a good paint to use on filament?
Anyone try texture paints on filament and other paints to make the filament look like diffrent type of material metal etc.
Will the paint cover up any lines in the filament printing too. Im looking for difrrent ways to put a finish coat over the filament.

For metal looking filament, you could have googled a bit and found those :
http://colorfabb.com/specials
http://www.proto-pasta.com/collections/retail/metal
For surface finish, you can try that :

As for texturing, there was this.

And then there were some articles about decals instructions... couldn't find it at short notice.
I'm sure you'll find more easily, google is your friend.

the ONLY filaments that look metallic without a shitload of post processing are the new reprappertech filaments.
They use very fine metal powders and use it as a proper colourant.
They currently do: copper, aluminium, brass, flexible copper (got brass and flexy copper samples yesterday) and bronze which I don'have yet - but will get and do a direct comparison between colorfabb bronzefill and reprapper bronze.
The reprapper stuff does not require ANY post processing. So you'll get all the fine detail. The colorfabb stuff requires extensive sanding and polishing so you lose a lot of fine detail and it's a real pita.
I don't paint stuff - but lots of other people do and will know what works best.
Here you go with pics of colorfabb bronzefill and reprapper tech bronze pla.
See if you can spot the difference ;-)

I actually like the bronzefill for things you won't to make look like they're made from old weathered stone. That's what it comes out like before sanding & polishing.Last edited by curious aardvark; 07-08-2015 at 06:01 AM.
