I got a powerspec 3d pro from micro center. It's not $500, it's $799, but has some good features. 2 heads, ability to ABS.
I have nothing to compare it to as it's my first printer and I've only had it a few weeks, but I feel for the price I got a lot for my money

You can try Printrbot Assembled Metal Simple 3D Printer, Black, PLA Filament, 1.75mm Ubis Hot End, 6" x 6" x 6" Build Volume. This is a good product. For more details you can visit Overland Park Printing .
