converter
Hello forum,
Let my first post start with questions .
1."What will be the role of a 3D programmer (3D Computer Graphics with OpenGL) in 3D printing" ?
2. "Does a 3D programmer have to convert 3D data to 2D data when it comes to write a converter for 3D printing ?" If the answer is yes, any hint on how to accomplish it ? Some references around this issue would be very helpful.
Thanks

The term you're looking for is a "Slicer", a program that converts 3D files to g-code, which is readable by a printer's firmware.
There are a few slicer programs out there, but none of them are perfect. So there is definitely room for competent programmers to innovate in that market. Writing a slicer is a lot less about Open GL and much more about knowing the g-code syntax.
I assume that was the question you were asking, I hope I've answered it well enough.
