the lid - unless you've inverted it, will print much much better with the top flat on the print platform. And wouldn't need supports.
One of the problems I see round here is people assuming that they have to use supports for everything. When correct design and orientation can often eliminate them entirely.

I initially tried to print flat bottom up - as you said it should print much better but still had the issues seen in earlier images read a hole in the middle.
Definitely the model and not print settings as per defaults and dozens of variations. Different printers confirm this.
