Marlin Z steps not updating

im running into an issue where my models are shorter then expected

when I measured 100mm ends up being 96.31mm
so i was trying to update my Z steps

In Marlin i set it to 6400 steps
but when I connect to the printer, the feed says the following

Steps per unit:
M92 X80.00 Y80.00 Z12800.00 E541.06

Why does it say 12800 steps if i set 6400 steps in marlin
using 1/8 microstep
even when i set marlin to 3200 steps and flash it it still says 12800
and when i check the LCD motion settings it says +9999

it flashes without error so why isnt it updating that variable.

figured it out.. I need to either run M502 & M500
or disable my EEPROM in marlin
