    I would guess because the way he has them oriented, they don't need support, meaning they don't have to be processed afterwards. Print time isn't much of a concern compared to post-processing time.

    hm...
    i think you have to put the whole object on small cylinders...like a "Stilt house" because you have a great problem with the actual print, to get it away from the "print-bed-grid".
    Maybe like the structure here:

    so in all positions you will have to remove this support but with (maybe) doubled print time when you print it in this prosition...
