3D Printed Titanium - Cheaper Than Regular Titanium

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research organization, in Australia has a new technology that allows them to print parts out with Titanium at costs which are cheaper than that of traditional manufacturing methods. Titanium is used in many products which include, but are not limited to products in the following fields:

- Aerospace and Defense
- Medical implants
- Manufacturing industry
- Research & Development

You say it is cheaper. Is it cheaper on the grand scheme of things or only if they need to print one highly individualized and custom product? 3D Printing is supposed to make the manufacturing of personalized items way more affordable. However, from this post I am under the impression that even on a large scale, it's cheaper to 3D print these items than to use traditional manufacturing? If so, that's a nice breakthrough in 3d printing tech!
