Replace FF motherboard with Printrboard

Hello there I'm new to FF I just bought my creator but i'm not new to 3d printing. I was wondering if anyone has switched out a mightyboard for a printrboard with repetitier? It looks like many of the componets in the FF are standard so I'm not sure it would be too difficult, Just wondering.

The reason I'm considering it;

a) good tinker project
b) I REALLY MISS OCTOPRINT
c) layer fan controller in Simplfy 3d

Any thoughts? Can the mightyboard that comes from ff control an aux fan in Gcode?

ask geoff - he's done something similiar. But I think with a different board type.
