Hemp as a 3D Printable Material
A number of researchers, designers, and product developers say they think using hemp plastic and 3D printing will have a place in the next generation of product design. Liz Ciokajlo's Hemp Shoes project and Brian Westphal's Lotus Boards skateboards are just a couple of the products attempting to use the strong, fibrous qualities of hemp to manufacture everything from paper to textiles, houses, and plastics. The developers say using hemp will save energy, reduce carbon emissions, and cut back on the amount of water used during cultivation of 3D printing base materials.
