Russ Dunn, the Senior Vice President for Engineering and Technology at GKN Aerospace, says the deal his firm signed with Arcam to buy a pair of the Swedish company's electron beam melting machines will end up driving the next steps forward in AM technology for high-end aerospace applications. The agreement will see engineers for both companies develop the technology they say can produce components which are lighter and generate less waste during manufacture than traditional methods. According to Dunn, GKN's experience in powder metallurgy aerospace expertise will be used to help Arcam refine their EBM technology.
