Servo ABL Probe Linear Plunger
I really dont like having the micro switch on the servo arm directly.
with my setup it always knocks into the heated bed.. so i wanted something that would move down and up vertically instead
Thoughts on the attached

Its definitely an idea and worth a try though you will need to figure out some way to attach a servo horn to it or it will slip all the time.

Have you tried a web search for something like "linear R/C servo" or "linear R/C actuator"? I've always figured one of those would be a better way to go than a rotary servo. It could be that they're too hard to find, too bulky, too heavy or too pricey, but they might give you some ideas.
There are also "micro" sized linear servos such as the SPMSH2040L from Blade/Spektrum, but they can be really jittery, especially with no airfoil load on them.

I would embedd the servo horn into the Gear, so it shouldnt slip
the servo only does a 180 revolution.. so in reality only have the gear teeth are needed
yes i looked up RC Linear actutors first, but they are between $60-$100,
so depending how well or badly this works.. that is plan B

I wonder how much backlash those RC Linear actuators have.. also how accurate they are, in terms of hitting the same exact position when extended.

Why not just upgrade to the current software? Using the firmware supplied by Colin the ABL probe would impact the bed when retracting.
With the current enhanced firmware the z axis moves up before retracting the probe. It works pretty well.

Do bed magnets deteriorate.
