Between 3D Systems, Rita Leibinger Medical, and collaboration with a Belgian surgeon from the University of Ghent, a new 3D printed titanium implant has now made 10,000 pets suffering from cruciate ligament condition very happy – not to mention their thousands of pet owners who are able to watch them walk and run again. The titanium implant would not have been possible without the technology of 3D printing as 3DS was able to design an open, intricate structure using direct metal 3D printing for the titanium material. Everything about the process is better for the dogs, who are under anesthesia for less time, have less risk of infection, and are up and running in six weeks.
