With increasing frequency, museums and researchers are using 3D scanning and printing to help unlock the secrets of the past. The Natural History Museum in London recently scanned one popular piece of their collection, Sophie the Stegosaurus, to help them complete the mostly intact fossil with some critical parts via 3D printing. The scan data has also been used to study a variety of questions surrounding how the rare dinosaurs once lived. You can read the whole story here: http://3dprint.com/45856/stegosaurus-3d-scanned/
