Architects have, at least in the past, often been constrained in terms of design when it comes to concrete structures. The shapes of those structures were limited to the ability to create the proper forms to realize a given shape. Now 3Dealise and ExOne have pioneered a sand-based 3D printing process capable of building enormous forms for concrete construction. Using the ExOne S-Max printer, 3Dealise built a series of demonstration columns from concrete in a "twisted-H" pattern which are just over five feet tall.
