3D Systems buys Gentle Giant

3D Systems continues their trend of acquiring other companies.

The 3D printing leader said it acquired Gentle Giant Studios, a provider of 3D modeling for the entertainment and toy industry as 3D Systems (DDD) continues to expand into the consumer market. Gentle Giant has the license for 3D printer characters for Disney (DIS) and Marvel, as well as the "Star Wars" and "Harry Potter" franchises. The announcement comes a day after 3D Systems said it completed the acquisition of Xerox's solid ink engineering and development teams, labs and a patent portfolio for $32.5 mil in cash. 3D Systems shares rose 2.4% to 96.42.
