Replicator 2X USB connection timeout

since I already got tired of swapping the SD card back and forth (yes, after 2 weeks) I decided to get me the USB extender cable I needed for connecting the printer with my computer (Win7 x64)

started out fine after connecting them but after some time (didn't count the minutes but around 10 I think) the printer just disappears on my computer
that is very troublesome as it happens while printing directly from MakerBot Desktop which causes the printer to stop midprint and won't continue... :/

the question is:
is it the printer or the computer that causes this disconnect? :/



PS:
I already tried different USB slots on the computer... maybe I try it with my Laptop too but I have to prepare it first...
