I've found rafts to be too problematic, a lot of time it sticks to the print too well and is hard to take off.
Glass bed and ABS juice works wonders to help both PLA and ABS stick to the glass....
Thermistors thermocouples, doesnt matter
They are cheap ones and so inaccurate most of the time. try printing at a higher temp.
Try higher temps. The thermistors are cheap and not accurate.
Why a 17 tooth gear? I though the ones needed were either a 16 or 20 tooth?
Yeah CTC arent the type of printers which will give you great prints right off the bat.
You need to get them set up, upgraded and calibrated yourself, and this could require some work.
That's why I said contact ebay first, assuming they bought from ebay, not seen CTCs sold anywhere else.
Well you arent explaining things properly, but it sounds like the firmware didnt flash properly.
If you bought from ebay you can raise a claim saying the product is faulty, the seller will get in...
Which thermister did you buy? Like yours mine is way off and I dont like having to calibrate the temps all the time.
I would do it this way
http://reprage.com/post/46062359808/quick-guide-to-calibrating-the-scale-of-your-3d-printer
This method also saves on wasting filament on making a calibration print each...
Been told, but not doen this myself yet, that you can go into the Sailfish RepG install folder, and then go into the machines folder and there you will see a list of xml files for different machines....
Question about the pillow blocks, how do you get the rods out?
Do you have to remove an entire side of the printer and pull them out.
Or is there an easier way without taking much off?
Great.
But how did you update the steps/mm on the printer?
I try changing it on makerware but it never saves it to the printer's firmware and resets when I restart the printer.
Cheap printer means cheap thermisters. They are not very accurate.
When it comes to setting temps you have to guess it really.
eg I cannot print ABS at 230C I have to set it at 255C in order...
Do your circles come out like this?

If so the problem I was having was the Y motor belt was loose.
Not the belts on the left or right for the Y axis, but the short belt connected to the...
I think we can all say that in the end this is a nice cheap printer for a beginner.
For someone to get into 3D printing without having to spend over £1000 on a semi-decent quality printer.
But...

Are you sure that fan noise is from the PSU?
There is a small fan next to the motherboard, it is supposed to pass air over the heatsink in front of it, but apparently it does almost nothing to...
Did you have to post the current one back? If not well done on some spare parts :P
Not sure, but I am guessing that once you download all the latest firmwares from jetty using repg, you install the Makerbot Replicator 1 with ATmega 2560.
Oh what's the name of the seller you used? Better to know so we dont buy from them again.
Damn, you can actually buy the acrylic enclosure for a qidi on ebay for just £26!
Wish they sold one for the CTC for the same price!
1) You have a clog. The ticking sound is the motor unable to extrude the filament.
2) Temperature is not high enough for the filament you are using. It's not melting so the motor will not extrude,...
Reflashing the firmware or upgrading it may help fix any errors that may have occur during the factory install.
But again, you wont know until your try it.
Have you contacted the seller first?
Of course there are different sellers, but I've had pretty good comms with the seller I bought from.
Gave me a partial refund,
Sent replacement PSU
