Started 3d printing about, wow 2 years already. Upgraded my H-1 with linear bearings(printed) and a bowden setup. Here to help too.

Not clean at all but it gets the job done with speed and pretty good accuracy. Can't complain except for the small build area (6in cube)
Most of the time the pla is lost or mixed with sand which results in the little that is left being unsuable

I have a Seemecnc H-1 that I built from their kit, took one week to assemble then the rest of the summer tuning it. I only ordered the most basic kit with no upgrades so there was naturally problems...

Try lowering the printhead for the first layer to get better adhesion, also not sure if the fan is pointing on the print or ducted towards the head but have you tried without the fan? Some swear...
Companies already do this, so you will be fine. Some sell full kits, or fully assembled. Reprapro is the only one I know of off the top of my head
