3D Printed Drones Being Use to Save Endangered Species
The wcUAVc -- Wildlife Conservation UAV Challenge -- is an anti-poaching drone design competition that 139 teams from throughout the world are competing in. 3D printing promises to make a great contribution to the competition that requires inexpensive vehicles that can fly day and night in any weather with the ability to locate animal poachers and relay their whereabouts to park rangers. The competition is exciting because it highlights 3D printing's ability for application in a wildlife conservation context, further expanding its uses. Wildlife conservation of dwindling animal populations is a noble calling, and 3D printing is answering the calling. What happens when the poachers start using drones to locate the wildlife? With the proliferation of this technology, it's just a matter of time. And it's too late to put the genie back in the bottle.
