Rockets - printed by Peachy Printer.

Im always on the look out for functional things that 3d printers are really good at making.
model Rockets are one of those things especially because small changes in design affect there aerodynamics.

Here is a model rocket ( this one I made from scratch in blender )
Ive added some fun things here like variable twisting of the fins, and riffling to the rocket body.

Haven't launched it yet but it I have launched lots of model rockets and Im really looking forward to all the interesting design changes one can do when 3d printing model rockets.
I will probably wait until I have 5 or more ready to launch and ill be sure to set up some cameras so I can post the footage here

Here is a blend file ( try changing the angle in the deform modifier to affect how twisted the fins are)
    manual-rocket-twist.blend.zip

    and here are some pics

More pics of actual prints of this model rocket coming soon

looks like it might be a bit more stable during launch than a straight fin rocket due to the airodynamic forces that look like it should spin, but will it be too much drag or not enough spin?

Ya I think it will spin and that will make any directional instability get spread around in circles, so even if it fly's rather crooked it will go on a spiralling trajectory that on average is very straight.

There is a little scrubber bar in blender that makes the spiralling of the fins more or less intense, It will be lots of fun to print many different versions and see how they compare in the air!

There is no set size, you can scale it to fit any model rocket engine you like, this is 3d printing after all, its important that we think of these things a User_Defined.
You can see the size we printed it in the pics coming in the next post.
We used maker Juice for the resin.
