Entire Rocket Engine Has Been 3D Printed
Aerojet Rocketdyne has done something quite unbelievable. They have 3D printed an entire working rocket engine in just 3 pieces. The engine which the company calls the 'Baby Banton' is capable of 5,000 pounds of thrust. By using additive manufacturing, Aerojet Rocketdyne has saved about 65% on costs, while cutting down the time it takes for design and manufacturing from one year to a couple of months. Traditional Banton engines consist of dozens of parts, meaning this engine is much less complicated. More details on this story can be found here: http://3dprint.com/7355/3d-printed-engine
How incredible is this? What is next to be 3D printed? We seem to finally be realizing the benefits of this amazing technology!
