3D Printed Ankle Replacement Surgery a Success

It seems like every day we are hearing about new uses for 3D printing within the medical community. It is my belief that in the short term the medical field will see the biggest impact from additive manufacturing technology. The story here: http://3dprint.com/7783/3d-printed-ankle-replacement/ discusses a woman who recently received an ankle replacement with 3D printed parts making up the new ankle. The surgery was an overwhelming success, allowing the woman to walk comfortably once again.

How far, how fast do you guys think 3D printing will take the medical field?

I am very intrigued with this technology. Does anyone know if there is someone close to the DC area or Dayton, OH area that may be doing the same thing for foot and ankle?

I hear about replacement knee and hip surgeries all the time, but the ankle is a much more complex joint. Pretty exciting.
