Researchers at the Australian National University have come up with a process which uses 3D printing to print out a polymer material. They then harden the material by baking it, leading to a crystal clear lens. Each lens costs just one cent to produce. The lenses can then be rigged up onto a smartphone to create a dermascope. A Dermascope is a magnifying device used to examine skin. The lenses are capable of magnifying objects 160 times, to a resolution of just 4 micron.

The researchers are looking to commercialize these sometime this year, especially towards developing nations, who may be unable to afford expense Dermascopes. Check out an image below of some of the hardened lenses:
