In order to physically manifest the detrimental effect that rising housing prices have had on the city San Francisco, programmer and data artist Doug McCune has turned to 3D printing to help create a data-based sculpture and make a social statement on this critical issue. After using a dataset of housing sales to create a color-coded map of the city, McCune transformed the data into a 3D model that displayed the discrepancies in the value of different neighborhood. This sculpture was then printed with a Type A Machines Series A 3D printer. McCune has made the raw data and 3D model available for free download.
